We are one of the big boys!

The Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo, held each year over the week of July 24, not only is one of the biggest and best statehood celebrations in Utah, but for two years in a row also has been named on the top five large outdoor rodeos in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Yes, that’s right Ogden Pioneer Days, which is run almost entirely by a group of dedicated volunteers, ranks alongside such great rodeos as the Pendleton Roundup and Cheyenne Frontier Days. Ogden Pioneer Days, repeatedly voted the best rodeo in the Wilderness Circuit, draws more than 30,000 annually to its PRCA rodeo and corresponding events. Each year, Ogden Pioneer Days is celebrated at the historic Ogden Pioneer Stadium, where the rodeo started in 1934 and where the feeling of the American west still lives. Bring the whole family and join us for five nights of rodeo entertainment under the stars. This year's rodeo will be July 20-23, and July 25.

the grind

A photo of Ogden’s top-notch rodeo and statehood celebration recently graced the pages of one of the world’s most respected newspapers. This image of the view from the top of the grandstands over the bucking chutes, captured by a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, accompanied an in-depth New York Times piece on the members of the Wright family and their journey to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. The photo of Ogden Pioneer Stadium  appeared in the Sunday, March 15, 2015 edition. See the story, titled "The Ride of their Lives."

Paying Tribute to our Heritage • National Day of the American Cowboy

Every year, Ogden Pioneer Days also pays tribute to the men and women who have worked so hard throughout their lifetimes to preserve Utah's cowboy culture. The mission of the National Day of the Cowboy nonprofit organization is to contribute to the preservation of America’s cowboy heritage so that the history and the culture can be shared and perpetuated for the public good, through education, the arts, celebrations, gatherings, rodeos, and community activities. On Wednesday, July 22, cowboys and cowgirls from almost every county in Utah took center stage at the Ogden Pioneer Days rodeo to be honored for their lifetime commitment to our western heritage. This year's National Day of the Cowboy will be Friday, July 22.
